Happy New Year 2010 . . .
I'm beginning to wonder why I keep saying the same things over and over. Cases in point: "Where does the time go?" and "Time seems to keep getting away from me."
Yesterday I drove up to The Fold in Marengo, Illinois. This is about an hour and 45 minutes from me. I could have met the SnB Crew and carpooled, but I decided at the very last minute that I would go, so I just jumped into the car and headed North and met them there.
It's always so good to see Toni - and even with a store/house full of people, she is always gracious and happy and smiling.
Knitterary and I shook hands again on continuing our exercise in Stash Busting. This time through April 30th, when we will re-negotiate again :-) Yesterday was a day of dispensation, but I managed to go up to The Fold and not buy ANY yarn, nor ANY fiber. That didn't keep me from spending money, however, because books were 40% off. And if you know me at all, you probably know that I'm of the opinion that one can never have too many books. ;-D I have a dispensation for the Missouri Fiber Retreat in March, but something's going to have to be pretty amazing for me to open the pocketbook, I think.
Clearly, my stash is too big if I can be this sanguine about not getting any more any time soon!
I came home from The Fold with six books and at least 10 patterns (they were 25% off!). Hot Dog! Looks like I will be making some more space on the shelves for them. That means that something's likely going to have to go . . . I learned long ago (when I was living in a studio), that it's a good practice to follow that if something comes in, something else has to leave. :-) There are two bags now for the Second Chance shop - I'll see what else I can gather together to donate.
And finally, I managed to load my Photoshop software on the new computer, and figure out how to get the photos out of the camera. Did I mention that I REALLY do not like the new Kodak Z1015S? Well, I don't. It's a big pain. But I digress.
I know that knitting content has been thin on the blog lately - in fact a LOT of blogs I normally read have been thin lately. I think a lot of people have gone to facebook and twitter. I figured out facebook, but let's face it, I talk way too much to deal with twitter. I need more than 140 characters people!
Here she is: my first bear for the Mother Bear Project

My embroidery skills need a little brushing up (and a sharper needle), but I think she looks pretty happy, and that some child in Africa will be happy to hold her in their arms. :-) The yarn is Knit One, Crochet Too's Fleece, which is perfect for these. Knit up on smaller needles than the yarn calls for, it makes a sturdy fabric for the stuffing to stay put!
I got a lot of this yarn from an acquaintance on Ravelry, who sold it to me at a great price because I'm making bears out of it. Yay! I have a 29 year supply :-D The next bear will be a boy, I think :-)
I made a number of smaller projects these last few months - a couple of which I neglected to photo before gifting them, including a Baby Surprise Jacket with matching hat and socks, and also a number of quick hats for the tree at church.
I also just finished this duo - it's for my dentist! When he was traveling in New Zealand last year, he visited one of the wool/craft co-op places in Christ Church, and brought me some lovely handspun Romney (the gold) and a New Zealand blend (the brown). They were manly colors, so I decided it was only right to make something for him out of them. I have an appointment on Tuesday!
The hat is the basic hat from the book Wendy Knits. The fingerless gloves are Dashing, from knitty.com.
Well, there are thank you notes for me to write (Michelle, if you're reading this, forgive my bad manners - I LOVE what you sent me :-) ), and laundry to finish - and I have picked up my Two Hearts (rav link) sweater again - just last night - and I'm making progress. It's time to finish up loose ends as we move into the New Year.
