Popcorn . . .

What do you want?
How bad do you want it?
What are you willing to do to get it?

This is an old mantra of mine, and it blasted back into my head this morning. I’ve realized that for the past few months, I have been stumbling over the last piece. I’ve been talking a good game, but I haven’t been willing to put in the work to truly succeed. Oh, I do great for about two weeks, and then, when the rubber hits the road, I fall over into the ditch.

I came to this moment of clarity while watching an old episode of Star Trek: TNG while walking on the treadmill this morning. Really? Star Trek? Really?? It’s crazy, but there it is – I can’t tell you how many moments of clarity I have had while watching telly.

So, what does this mean? Well, I’m not getting any smaller and there’s no good reason for it other than that I’m not taking good care of myself. I’m hibernating at home and rarely going anywhere except to work. It’s a chore to even go grocery shopping. I’m not cooking, just eating whatever I can find around the house, and I’m not taking my lunch with me to work.

Popcorn. When one of my cousins was little, she had a doll and she named her Baby Popcorn. She carried Baby Popcorn with her everywhere. I have no idea why. No one did. :-D But I thought of her recently because I’ve been eating a lot of popcorn. You don't really have to cook popcorn, you just have to have a popper.  Popcorn. I’ve been eating it for dinner. Popcorn for dinner is not functional, particularly as I like to put butter and salt on it. Yeah – not working for me, so I dumped all the popcorn out on Sunday. Woman cannot live by popcorn alone. Peanut butter. Yeah, that’s gone, too. Sugar and some highly processed foods have crept back into my routine. Anyone know a good source for whole wheat (not whole grain, whole wheat) lasagna noodles? I don’t want to make it anymore with regular lasagna noodles because it seems that when I do eat processed stuff (regular pasta falls into that category for me) or sugar, it starts a snowball effect that I'm not able to manage well.

It’s time to look at the schedule and make some adjustments. I mean, this crap has to stop – sugar makes me hurt. It doesn’t matter what kind it is (I flirted with raw honey for a couple of weeks – it makes me hurt). I had fallen out of my morning walking routine and thankfully got that started back up yesterday, and my WW food week resets on Thursday. Cooking and freezing loom (not looms  :-D ) on the horizon – so does making my own bread (not so processed – cross your fingers).

I've been talking about this with a friend of mine - we both have Fitbit monitors and love them - and it's really been helping me to have some friends on there where we can encourage each other to be more active.

Anyway – I was watching Jillian Michaels scream on The Biggest Loser last night, and while everyone else was thinking she was a maniac (she was wailing like a banshee), I was thinking that a lot of the contestants this season want results without doing the work . . . and then I was sweating on the treadmill this morning, watching Jean Luc Picard in an alternate reality being told that he always had lofty goals but he just wasn’t willing to put in the work it took to achieve them.

Hello? Anyone?? Bueller???

Stay tuned, I’m adjusting my attitude and relanguaging my intentions – I’ll let you know how it goes.

I read this and thought, "A, why on earth would you want to freeze your looms?" LOL - shows where my mind is at!

I'm not sure about the whole wheat lasagna noodles, but perhaps you could just use eggplant or zucchini in place of noodles? You could slice them lengthwise, salt them and let them sit for bit to draw out the extra water, then pat them dry and use them in place of noodles.

Popcorn for dinner?! I can't imagine it. The braces keep me from doing something like that for now. In some ways the braces are a blessing to me since they have made me re-calibrate my eating for over 9 months now. It is more of a habit to eat small amounts slowly, and to avoid things like crackers, chips, etc. (and this includes popcorn).

Do you have a crockpot? You know, a slow cooker? Throw something together in the morning and it will be done when you come home from work. I could not live on popcorn. All that lack of nutrition is sapping your ability to want to do anything. Like a catch 22
